Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan witnessed a rise in its collection on the second Saturday at the box office. The film, which almost doubled its collection from the second Friday, earned in the range of Rs 4.25 crore nett in India, taking the total of 10 days to Rs 129 crore nett, reported the trade website Sacnilk.
The film opened at Rs 31.7 crore during the Dussehra weekend, but the collections after that kept dropping massively. So much so that it recorded its lowest single-day business on the second Friday with Rs 2.6 crore nett in India. However, the second weekend definitely came bearing gifts for the fans as the audience visibly flocked to theatres.
Directed by TJ Gnanavel, the film explores the subject of encounter killings in India. Vettaiyan was promoted extensively before its release and showed great potential at the box office. The film wrapped up its first week business at around Rs 122.15 crore nett, out of which around Rs 105 crore nett came from the Tamil market alone.
It will be interesting to see if it can now go on to hit the benchmark of Rs 150 crore by the end of its second weekend or not. Also starring Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil and Rana Daggubati in important roles, the film has been appreciated for its thoughtful content. In fact, the makers are thinking on the lines of creating a prequel to the film, focussing on Anthony’s role.
